Cambodia Recorded Over 600,000 Tourists in Final Weekend of January

PHNOM PENH: From 23-29 January 2023, Cambodia recorded over 600,000 tourists, with eight provinces receiving the most number of visitors.

According to a report from the Ministry of Tourism released on Tuesday, 31 January 2023, between 23-29 January 2023, a total of 606,175 tourists, of whom 49,592 were foreigners, were recorded across Cambodia.

The main tourist destinations were the following eight provinces: Kampot, Battambang, Siem Reap, Kampong Cham, Phnom Penh, Pailin, Kep, and Sihanoukville. The city that saw the most visiting tourists was Sihanoukville, with a total of 184,929 visitors.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the 600,000 tourists recorded over the past week include those who visited during the last two days of the Chinese New Year (Monday and Tuesday). The total number of tourists that Cambodia recorded during the Chinese New Year was around 1 million.

The continued increase in domestic tourism in early 2023 provides a positive sign for the industry, with a steady influx of international tourists expected following the reopening of China's borders. Kang Keng Airport in Sihanoukville received its first flight from China on Friday morning, 27 January 2023, carrying a total of 114 passengers and a flight crew of six.
